Interscholastic Equestrian Team

The IEA, Interscholastic Equestrian Association, is a national organization for middle and high school students modeled after the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) hosted by colleges and universities around the country. Unlike traditional horse shows all riders participate on horses that are unfamiliar to them. The mounts and the tack are all provided by a host Team. Riders have a short orientation period before the show starts to familiarize themselves with the horses gait and tendencies.  All scores are based on the horsemanship of the riders rather than on the capability of the horse.  High school and middle school riders compete at regional shows with an opportunity for the top performers going on to participate in National competitions. Students can win not only recognition and prizes, but scholarships as well.  The IEA is a great stepping stone to collegiate competition.  It is also a unique opportunity for riders to participate as a team in what is usually an individual sporting event.

Stonehaven Farms has recently developed an IEA Team. The Stonehaven Equestrian IEA Team participated in their first Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) show in Oberlin, OH the weekend of October 29 – 30 against eight other IEA Teams from the Ohio and Michigan area. Stonehaven fielded both a high school and a middle school team for the event. The middle school team walked away with the Team Grand Champion award. Additionally, Stonehaven riders claimed the awards for the Individual Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. Seven other team members also earned ribbons in their classes.
